Giving In Charity To Orphans

Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (RA): Once the Prophet Mohammad (SAW) sat on a pulpit and we sat around him.
Then he said: "The things I am afraid of most for your sake (concerning what will befall you after me) is the pleasures and splendours of the world and its beauties which will be disclosed to you."

Somebody said: "O Allah's Messenger, can the good bring forth evil?"

The Prophet Mohammad (SAW) remained silent for a while.

It was said to that person, "What is wrong with you? You are talking to the Prophet (SAW) while he is not talking to you."

Then we noticed that he was being inspired.

Then the Prophet (SAW) wiped off his sweat and said, "Where is the questioner?" It seemed as if the the Prophet (SAW) liked his question.

The He said: "Good never brings forth evil. Indeed it is like what grows on the banks of a water-stream which either kills or makes the animals sick, except if an animal eats its fill the Khadira (a kind of vegetable) and then faces the sun, and then passes out dung, and urine and grazes again."

No doubt this wealth is sweet and green.
"Blessed is the wealth of a Muslim from which he gives to the poor, the orphans and needy travelers [or the Prophet (SAW) said something similar to it].
No doubt, whether takes it illegally will be like the one who eats but is never satisfied, and his wealth will be witness against him on the Day of Resurrection."

[Sahih Al-Bukhari, Book of Zakat, Chapter 31]

Helping Relatives Is Charity?

Giving Zakat to one's husband and orphans under one's protection.

(Narrated 'Amr bin Al-Harith): Zainad, the wife of Abdullah bin Mas'ud (RA) further to her Hadith (No. 741), said almost the same, but added in this quotation I went to the Prophet (SAW) and I saw there an Ansari woman who was standing at the door (of the Prophet (SAW) with a similar problem as mine. Bilal passed by us and we asked him, "Ask the Prophet (SAW) whether it is permissible for me to spend (in charity) on my husband and the orphans under my protection." (So Bilal went inside) and asked the Prophet (regarding our problem).

The Prophet (SAW) said: "Yes, (it is sufficient for her) and she will receive a double reward (for that): ONE FOR HELPING RELATIVES, AND THE OTHER FOR GIVING CHARITY."
[Sahih Al-Bukhari, Book of Zakat, Chapter 32]

Every Muslim Has To Give In Charity

Every Muslim has to give in charity and whoever does not find anything to give, should do all that is good {i.e. enjoin Al-Ma'ruf (Islamic Monotheism, and all that Islam has ordained)}.

Narrated Abu Musa (RA);
The Prophet Mohammad (SAW) said:  "Every Muslim has to give in charity,"

The people asked,  "O Allah's Messenger! If someone has nothing to give, what will he do?"

The Prophet (SAW) said, "He should work with His hands and benefit himself and also give in charity (from what he earns)."

The people further asked, "If he cannot do even that?"

The Prophet (SAW) replied, " He should help the needy who appeal for help."

Then the people asked, "If he cannot do that?"

The Prophet (SAW) replied, "Then he should perform all that is good {i.e. enjoin Al-Ma'ruf (Islamic Monotheism, and all that Islam has ordained)} and keep away from all that is evil { i.e. disbelief, polytheism, and all that Islam has forbidden} and this will be regarded as charitable deeds."
[Sahih Al-Bukhari, Book of Zakat, chapter 19 #730]

Give Charity As Much As You Can Afford.

Narrated Asma' bint Abu Bakr (RA)
The Prophet Mohammad (SAW) said: "Do not shut your money bag; otherwise Allah (SWT) too will withhold His Blessings from you. Spends (in Allah's Cause) as much as you can afford."
[Sahih Al-Bukhari - Book of Zakat, chapter 14]
